Vishal Rewards / Case study
A custom rewards programme for an electrical-products brand — an Android app, a web portal, and an admin system, so a QR coupon on a switch box turns into points, gifts, and a trade relationship that keeps going.
Vishal Modular has made electrical products — modular switches, MCBs, wiring, sockets — in India since 1985, and sells them through the people who actually fit and stock them: electricians, counter boys, and retailers. The question was how to reward that trade network for choosing Vishal, in a way that couldn’t be gamed and didn’t need a call centre to run.
The answer had to live on a phone, because that’s what an electrician has on site. It also had to be verifiable — points should come from a real product that was really bought — and it had to be something the brand could operate itself, day to day, without coming back to me for every gift added or coupon issued.
Not just an app — the whole loop that makes a loyalty programme actually work, in three connected parts.

A companion web portal at rewards.vishalmodular.com so the programme has a home on the open web — for onboarding, information, and reach beyond the app install.
A back office where the brand runs the programme itself: managing members, coupons, the gift catalogue, point caps, and redemptions — no developer in the loop.
App, web and admin share one source of truth, so a scan on the shop floor and a redemption approval in the office are the same system talking to itself.
Follow the journey — the screen keeps up.
Signs up with their user type — electrician, counter boy, or retailer — plus retailer code and address, confirmed by email, so only the real trade network is in the programme.
Points the camera at the QR printed on Vishal packaging; the scan is validated — with a camera and location check — so a coupon counts once, for a real product.
The balance goes up, with clear progress toward any caps, so people know exactly where they stand.
Opens the gift catalogue, sees exactly how many points each gift needs, and requests the one within reach.
The redemption flows to the admin side for approval and dispatch to the address on file — and the member tracks every status change, right down to the courier number.
Tying points to a scannable coupon on the product means a reward maps to a genuine purchase — the anti-gaming logic is the whole point of a channel programme.
Capturing location when a coupon is scanned is there for validation and fraud prevention — requested only at the moment the workflow needs it.
An electrician, a counter boy, and a retailer relate to the brand differently, so the programme treats them as distinct member types from sign-up onward.
The admin system was a first-class deliverable, not an afterthought — so Vishal adds gifts, issues coupons, and approves redemptions without a developer on call.
The programme runs today across all three surfaces. Members register with their retailer code, scan the coupons printed on Vishal packaging, watch their points add up, and redeem them for gifts — backed by the web portal and an admin system the brand operates itself.
